Paddlers fly in from Tahiti, Australia, Hawaii, the Cook Islands and elsewhere to participate in the world-famous Takapuna Beach Cup, which made a return last weekend after a four-year break.
Waiheke Waka Ama Club made the shorter trip across the gulf with their two Tahitian designed Matahina canoes early last Friday morning. It was well worth the effort, and they came home with a gold and a silver. • Sarah Gloyer
