• We prefer press ready artwork supplied as a PDF (use press quality setting, ISOnewspaper 26v4).

• Check the ad sizing for the Gulf News:

   or the Waiheke Weekender: waihekegulfnews.co.nz/advertising/ww-advertising/

• No bleed or crop marks required, thanks.

• No ‘spot’ pantone colours. Supplied artwork cannot exceed 240% ink coverage.

• ‘Reversed out’ small text is hard to read when printed, particularly on backgrounds containing more than one colour. To be readable, text needs to be 12pt or above, preferably printed in 100% black ink (not ‘rich black’).

• We wish to reproduce your images to the highest possible standard. Images downloaded from a website at 72dpi are not of acceptable print quality – and often not copyright-free, either.

• When supplying scans or digital photography, images need to be 300dpi at the size you want them to be printed.

• Please supply photos in their original form, and not processed in Photoshop. Pre-processing can interfere with print quality.

• Our minimum file size is 1MB and we prefer jpegs. We do not accept .gif or .bmp.

• Only supply photos that you have permission to use. Images downloaded from a website must be copyright free.

• We receive artwork by email if the file size doesn’t exceed 8MB. When files are too large to send by e-mail, we can download your artwork directly from a free online link like Wetransfer.

Send print-ready artwork to sales@waihekegulfnews.co.nz or design@waihekegulfnews.co.nz

• Microsoft Word documents are not print ready.

• We do not accept .gif or .bmp images – we prefer jpegs.

• We do not accept Canva ads as print-ready artwork – in our experience the pre-sets of Canva are not up to the industry standards required for print. However Canva is a great way for you to supply us your ad design brief and we can re-make it in Adobe Creative Suite once you supply us your pictures, text and logo.

• As early as possible. If your artwork arrives late, we will not have been able to do a complete technical check, and we cannot guarantee the print quality of your ad.

If these technical specs sound like a giant hassle, don’t worry – we’ll sort it. If you require our design service, send us your text, with hi-res logos and images attached (not embedded in a Word document), plus your layout brief. If providing a Word document, provide a printed copy too. This service comes at no cost to you for the first two proofs.

Hint: effective ad text is clear and concise.

We are committed to the best possible outcome within the normal variations of off-set printing. If you have any questions about technical specifications, please call our design team on 09 372 5055.

14. THE CUSTOMER WARRANTS that material or information given to Gulf News is accurate, culturally sensitive and not calculated or likely to deceive any person or group of persons. Gulf News shall be indemnified by the customer in respect of any claims, costs and/or expenses arising from or out of any material or information which is not in conformity with these requirements.
