It was always going to be an uphill battle for Waiheke’s Tama Marshall to take a victory over hometown favourite Cassius Worthington if they met at last week’s Golden Gloves boxing tournament in Tauranga but losing by a close split decision makes it even more gut wrenching says the young athlete.
“The crowd showed their support for me when the referee held up Cassius’s hand after the bout but that’s all just part of the sport – it’s somewhat political and somewhat subjective. I was sure I’d done enough to win it but it just wasn’t to be this time,” he says.
