Sergeant Raymond Matthews received the New Zealand Police Long Service and Good Conduct Medal for 21 years of service at an awards ceremony in Auckland on Friday 7 November.

Senior Constable Peter Billett says a well-timed bit of leave on Ray’s part gave him, and the station, the opportunity to sneak the word out to Gulf News when he filled in for the weekly emergency services report. “Ray probably wouldn’t have reported this,” he says. But his colleagues felt Ray deserved the acknowledgement and recognition.
