Waiheke’s native bird numbers are on the rise again, with kākā taking out the top spot as the most observed native bird.

The Great Waiheke Kākā Count, a citizen science project led by Te Korowai o Waiheke, saw 761 submissions and a record number of 1,825 kākā counted this year; a 27 percent increase from last year and up 124 percent from the first kākā count in 2021.
