An Auckland couple’s first visit to Waiheke was certainly memorable, just not quite in the way they expected, after their rental car caught fire on Man O’ War Bay Road.
Dean Treherne and Todd Sims came to the island for a New Year’s day-trip on Saturday 3 January. The plan was to enjoy a walk along a beach, visit historic sites including the Stony Batter tunnels, check out a vineyard or two and see the sights in general. Todd says getting a rental car was a spur of the moment choice after stepping off the ferry, with the pair figuring it would help them see more of the island on their visit.
