The Department of Conservation is opening public consultations on a proposal that would see a changing of the guard at Stony Batter Historic Reserve, ousting the current operators who have successfully managed and run tours of the World War II bunker since 2015.

The outgoing Waiheke Local Board gave their full support to Fort Stony Batter archaeological and heritage director Tim Moon’s application to retain the reserve concession, and former chair Cath Handley took issue with the decision to put them on the backburner.
