Paul Walden is critical of the strategy and says for a long-term document it includes very little about how the island’s needs may change in the future and how to prepare to meet those changes.

An important piece of local policy, the island’s new Housing Strategy, is now out for four weeks of public consultation after a draft has been hammered out with the Waiheke Local Board, Auckland Council staff and key community groups. 

Public consultation on the 10-year strategy, which will be reviewed every three years, opened last week and submissions close on 28 May.
