Opponents of a government amendment to the proposed Hauraki Gulf/Tīkapa Moana Marine Protection Bill gathered at Oneroa Beach on Sunday. 

The protest, organised by Forest and Bird’s Bianca Ranson, was a response to the announcement made last week by Minister for Conservation Tama Potaka of a change that would allow commercial fishing in proposed ‘high-protection’ areas in the gulf.
