Visitors wanting to visit the Cascades in Whakanewha Regional Park now have another path to take.
Two hundred easy gradient steps have now been completed, starting at the top of the park’s Central Track opposite the Batch Winery carpark on Carsons Road.
The new trail takes around 45 minutes, leading to the Cascades then winding along beside the stream before returning to the vineyard close to the airfield.
The project is a partnership between Auckland Council, a team of park volunteers and Batch Winery and Vineyard, which sponsored materials for its construction.
While open to everyone, the path also offers winery customers another option before or after their visit, says Batch spokesperson Geraldine O’Sullivan Beere.
“From the vineyard we look across the park in several directions and beyond to the gulf and islands; it’s forest of green with younger and ancient trees, including four statuesque taraire.
“It’s a great step class addition to any Batch visit!” • Julianne Evans
