Two potential solutions to reopen the island’s only fully accessible community respite facility, Melanna House, which has been vacant since October 2025, were discussed at last week’s local board meeting.
Waiheke Special Needs Group representative Christabel Tomlinson told board members those solutions included having a new leaseholder or for Melanna House to be purchased outright for the group as two local philanthropists had come forward offering to do so after learning of their plight.
