The Waiheke Local Board is looking at options to meet Civil Aviation Authority regulations after the Onetangi Sports Park helipad’s reclassification as a heliport.

The helipad is the main landing site for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter on the island which carries out roughly 200 rescue missions a year. According to Auckland Council, this makes it one of the busiest helicopter emergency landing pads in the region, excluding hospitals.
